Scope of Work:

  • From East Camino Real to SE 5 Street/SE Mizner Boulevard one through lane in each direction will be repurposed to provide wider, 11-foot sidewalks and curb-separated, 5-foot bike lanes.
  • From SE 5 Street/SE Mizner Boulevard to NE 8 Street/NE Mizner Boulevard the median will be narrowed to provide space for 7-foot bike lanes with painted buffers.
  • Just south of Plaza Real a new signalized mid-block pedestrian crossing will be built with increased lighting, making pedestrians more visible to drivers.
  • Modify curb ramps and pedestrian detectors (buttons) to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to improve access for users with disabilities.
  • Replace and upgrade signs and pavement markings to meet current standards and increase reflectivity.
  • The US1 northbound left turn at East Camino Real will be modified from a single left turn lane to dual left turn lanes.

Construction Impacts:

  • Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community.
  • Mill and resurface the existing pavement throughout the project limits.
  • Construct new curb and gutter and drainage structures from East Camino Real to SE 5 Street/SE Mizner Boulevard.
  • Temporary lane closures will be required during construction. Lane closures will be performed during off-peak hours.
  • Repaving and restriping will be performed at night.
  • Access to businesses and residences along with pedestrian traffic will be maintained during construction.
  • Another public meeting (Construction Open House) will be held prior to construction where detailed information about how to keep informed of potential construction impacts will be provided at this meeting.
